From a Plastic Pollution to a Plastic Transition: Looking For Alternatives
Plastic pollution endangers marine and terrestrial environments. It is a commendable material in many respects: it is light, resistant and allows us to reduce our energy uses for transport and building. We must act at the source of the problem: by modifying our uses of plastic so that it regains its place, and do our "plastic transition" in a context of the circular economy. How can we choose alternatives to petrochemical source?
Biography
Born in the sububs of Paris, I studied Biology at the Sorbonne University and the University of Western Brittany. Doctor in Marine Biology in 2008, I was a contract researcher with an expertise in toxicology and microbiology. Since 2016, my activities have focused on the effects of plastics on the marine ecosystem. I am the author of more than 34 scientific articles, 3 book chapters and several patents. In 2018, I cofounded the company Plastic@Sea at the Banyuls-sur-Mer Observatory, aiming to offer alternatives to plastics of petrochemical origin. The company''s services are to measure plastic pollution, to test the biodegradability and toxicity of plastics in the natural environment. Since then, our activities have been promoted through several awards and publicized in more than 80 radio, web or television articles.
